If you’re looking for light crowds and short lines, the month of May is usually a great time to visit Disneyland. The long and busy Spring Break season, which starts in the middle of March and through April, is finally over with, making way for a less crowded resort in much of May.

While the annual Grad Nite event does take place after park closing on some nights and the weather starts to get warmer during the day, it’s not the summer season just yet. The bulk of the summer crowds don’t begin to arrive until June.

The Disneyland Resort anticipates Monday-Thursday to be the least busiest days of the week in May. The crowds do tend to pick up on Fridays, and weekends will generally be busier. Here’s some of the dates you may want to try to avoid if you’re going this month.

Dates To Avoid

Memorial Day Weekend – Big crowds and long lines are the norm throughout Memorial Day weekend. If you don’t like crowds, avoid going on that Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.

After Memorial Day – Disneyland is expected to get crowded for the summer right after Memorial Day. With midnight park closings and a full entertainment lineup scheduled for the entire week, the summer season crowds don’t let up until the end of August.

  1. I’m leaving for disneyland 2moro and staying there all the way thru the 9th, how do u think it will b? Will it be ok? I hope it isn’t busy, any ideas?

  2. I don’t think it will be too packed. Spring Break is over and the summer season crowds aren’t out yet, so it’s usually manageable this time of the year.

  3. My family wants to come visit Disneyland on Friday May 30th. I’m worried it will be awful. Do you think Thursday the 29th or Monday June 2nd would be much better?

  4. I would go on May 29. It’s expected to be a little more manageable. Fridays tend to be busier (especially in the evening) and the summer season crowds start arriving in June. Get there early!

  5. I am taking my family the week of the 26th. Do you advise staying away on Monday because of the holiday?

  6. Yeah, Memorial Day is expected to be crowded. The weekdays after are usually more manageable.

  7. Whats “Bats day” like? Are people dressed up in a way that might be frigtning for some younger guests

  8. I don’t think it’ll be frightening. Lots of people just dress up in gothic/black clothes. They won’t allow anyone dressed inappropriately inside the parks.

  9. I’m going may 5th,6th,7th. Will these be busy days? Tinkerbell 1/2 marathon weekend starts on the 7th…?!!

  10. I don’t think it will be too crowded on those days. Early May is usually pretty manageable since most of the big summer season crowds aren’t out yet.
