Going to Disneyland in June may seem like a bad idea. After all, schools are out and the busy summer season is underway. It’s going to be packed no matter what, right?

Not exactly. While there are days in June that are downright crowded, it’s still possible to enjoy a manageable experience at the parks even in the middle of the summer. It’s simply all about picking the right day to go. Let’s take a closer look at what to expect at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure in June.

We highly recommend waiting until the end of the month for the most manageable experience this month.

If you’re planning on visiting Disneyland in early or mid June, be sure to check the Crowd Calendar to stay away from those Grad Nite days.

Crowds/Attendance in June

The summer season crowds are out in full swing by June, so there usually aren’t any “Ghost Town” days at Disneyland this time of the year. Attendance is moderate to high this month, with the bulk of the crowds arriving early in the month. Grad Nite days on Fridays and Saturdays tend to be most crowded. Here are some things to keep in mind when visiting the parks in June:

1. Avoid Grad Nite days!
Non-Grad Nite days are historically less crowded. danjamin

Grad Nite attracts large high school groups to the Disneyland Resort every May/June. Although most of the big crowds usually arrive in the evening, attendees have admission to both parks all day. The result? Gridlock and long lines.

The Grad Nite events are traditionally held on two days during the week (usually Tuesday and Wednesday) and on the first two or three Fridays and Saturdays of June. Check the Crowd Calendar for the exact dates. If you must go in early to mid-June, it’s best to go on the weekdays in-between Grad Nite days if you can. Otherwise, we recommend just waiting until after the Grad Nite events are over.

2. The later you go in June, the better

For a more manageable Disneyland, go in late June rather than early  in the month. There are more annual pass blockout dates toward the end of June, keeping crowds fairly minimal. All annual passes are usually still valid on the first week of June. Couple that with Grad Nite and schools just going out of session, it’s definitely not the best time to visit.

Moreover, you don’t have to worry about Grad Nite days in late June, since they are over by the middle of the month. Attendance historically drops right after the events end.

3. Saturdays (after Grad Nite) are least crowded

It may seem a little odd to think of Saturdays in the middle of the summer season as the best days to visit Disneyland, but that’s actually the case in June after Grad Nites end.

Why Saturday? It’s mostly the combination of annual pass blockout dates and ticket prices that keeps attendance low on Saturdays. All annual passes (except the highest tiers) are blocked out on Saturdays in the summer, keeping locals away from the parks. On top of that, park tickets are priced at the most expensive level on Saturdays, swaying non-annual passholders to cheaper priced days. The result is a manageable experience at the parks, with all the summer season has to offer — minus the long lines.

Lines/Wait Times in June

For the shortest lines at Disneyland in June, try to go toward the end of the month. The last two weeks of the month tend to be most manageable (later is better). Around 30min waits has been the norm after the Grad Nite days are over.

If you’re going in early to mid June, expect longer lines (40-60min on average). Grad Nite days on Fridays and Saturdays traditionally have the longest lines of the month, at sometimes over 60min on average.

We recommend arriving at the parks early (at opening if you can) to take advantage of the shorter waits in the morning. The parks are usually crowded by noon, especially on Grad Nite days.

Weather in June

The month of June tends to be on the warm side in Southern California. It’s officially summer by the end of the month, but the weather usually isn’t sweltering hot just yet. Temperatures during the day are in mid 80°s on average. In the evening, temperatures are in the 60°s on average. June is also one of the driest months of the year, so rainy days are very rare.

Best & Worst Days to Go to Disneyland:
JANUARY | FEBRUARY | MARCH | APRIL | MAY | JUNE | JULY | AUGUST | SEPTEMBER | OCTOBER | NOVEMBER | DECEMBER

  1. Seems really interesting to me that Friday of next week (last week of June) as the best bet day? I thought Fridays are almost always a no no? I’ve looked at a few other calendars all predicting weekdays that week as being slightly less busy. Can you give me any details as to why Friday? Trying to finalize my choice of either Thursday or Friday next week…..

  2. I think it has to do with Pixar Pier opening the next day at DCA, so the day before the grand opening should be more manageable. That said, there probably won’t be much of a difference between Thursday and Friday. I would just go on whichever day is best for you.
